Even the most hardcore open source developers need to write documentation to go with their code. Whether it's design specifications, code comments, a reference manual, or the entire user guide, having good documentation can mean the difference between people using and contributing to your code, or throwing it away as a bad joke.

How to give feedback to employees! Constructive feedback on employee performance
As a supervisor or manager it’s your task to give regular feedback about employee performance. If you do this, especially if you criticize, you want to achieve something: you want to help your employee, for example, to improve his or her behaviour. Feedback is the best tool to help your staff to develop and improve. Always have in mind: If you criticize, it’s never about punishing or being angry. If you critize you want to help. You want to help your employee, for example, to improve his or her behaviour. However, in order to help, you need to take care that he or she is able to accept your feedback. Therefore you should be appreciative and respectful – and yet clear and distinct. That’s not easy to do. In this video I show you an example how feedback can go terribly wrong. I'll show you how to give feedback correctly to your employees! For more info head over to https://www.berndgeropp.com

How to Delegate Better with the 7 Delegation Levels
http://www.management30.com/practice/delegation-board Do you want to know how to delegate better? Use the 7 Delegation Levels! "Workers can often make better decisions than managers if there is trust in the system." The 7 Levels of Delegation help to enable and grow this trust. 1. Tell: You make a decision for others. 2. Sell: You make a decision for others but you try to convince them. 3. Consult: You ask for input before making a decision. 4. Agree: Consensus is made. 5. Advise: You offer others your opinion and hope they'll listen, but the decision is there. 6. Inquire: They decide and then tell you. 7. Delegate: They make the decisions because they are the experts. They can decide if you need to know. Salary is probably a one or a two, while the office halloween theme may be a 7. As a manager, you should look to delegate as much as you can to your team. A good way to clarify who does what is using a Delegation Board. And get your own decks of Delegation Poker cards here: https://management30.com/product/delegation-poker/

How to Sell on the Phone in Today's Market
Be sure to download Marc's incredible e-book on "25 Tips to Crush Your Sales Goal!" Just go here to get the e-book instantly: http://www.marcwayshak.com/opt1/ Phone Sales Video Summary: Phone Sales Tips #1: Have a script for all of your prospecting calls. There is nothing more frustrating to a prospect than when a salesperson fumbles through a sales call without a clear objective. One of the best phone sales tips out there is to use a script that lays out exactly how you will open the call, what you're going to ask, and how you will close the call. No more winging it. When you get a good prospect on the phone, it’s a knucklehead move to just wing that call. Script the hell out of your sales calls—even those that aren't cold calls. Phone Sales Tips #2: Take risks. For some reason, salespeople live in fear of calls. It’s as if the prospect will be able to reach through the phone and stab us in the eyes—that’s how scared we are of picking up the phone. But they can't touch us, and they can't hurt us. And you know what? If you screw up a call, so what? Big deal. It doesn't matter. The prospect won't even remember next month anyway. Be willing to take risks with your calls and if the prospect is being wishy-washy, call that person to task. If the prospect tells you to call back next month, ask, “Are you just trying to get rid of me, or do you actually want me to call?” Phone Sales Tips #3: Don't just use the phone. This might seem like it goes against all the other phone sales tips I just shared with you. But the truth is, the phone works best in conjunction with other powerful sales tools. When you call a prospect and you don't get through, it’s time to leave a voicemail, send an email, send over a package, and then call again. In fact, planning out your entire prospecting campaign is going to make your sales calls that much more effective. This way, your prospects are going to know who you are by the time you actually get them on the phone. Phone Sales Tips #4: Call high. If you’re going to make hundreds or even thousands of calls per month, investing countless hours in the activity, do you want to be calling the decision maker or just some lemming who’s going to have to ultimately pitch you to the boss? It's time to call high. Whoever you're calling now is probably lower level than you really should be calling. If you're calling managers, start calling directors. If you've been calling directors, start calling VPs or CEOs. The higher you call, the more you maximize your return on those calls. Phone Sales Tips #5: Call early, call late, and call often. Now that we've established that you're going to call high, the question is, how do you actually get through to that person? And the solution is simple. (By the way, I want to make a disclaimer here: 99% of readers will ignore this tip, but the 1% who implement it will make a lot of money.) High-level prospects typically work from 7AM to 7PM. In fact, many work from 6AM to 9PM. The data shows us that almost all CEOs work a few hours on Saturday. But when do gatekeepers work? Nine to five. Maybe 8:30 to 5:30 if they're workaholic-type admins. The bottom line is that when you call your high-level prospects early and late—and even on Saturdays—they are there. And best of all, their gatekeepers are not.

The PERFECT Sales Call Script
In this episode Marty Neumeier shares what he would say during his sales calls when he was first starting out. Neumeier states you need to try things, figure out who you are, what you love, get out there, and making sure you know everything there is to know about your thing, for you to get the job. Own your category. Anatomy of the perfect sales call: 1. Write down every accusation that the client may have. What will they accuse you of? Answer these in the sales call. I.e., who are you? Why should I care? What's in it for me? How much will this cost? (these are all deal killers so address them up front). 2. Tone of voice. Calm, relaxed, not pushy. Don't use any "salesy" language or high pressure sales techniques. 3. Be clear about what outcome you want. What do you want to happen as a result of the call? In this case, a 45 min meeting to present a sales deck with all your best "secrets". Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni
The Five Dysfunctions of Team is a team development model that explores the fundamental causes of organizational politics and team failure. Initially applied in business and corporate settings, it is now increasingly popular in the context of Sport.
Not all fingers on a palm are equal. If they did, it would be a severe disability. Similarly, each individual is different and has core competencies that are unique. Some are very innovative, some are good in execution and others in oratory/communication skills. There is tremendous and diverse talent in many organisations. How many times have you seen ideas just undermined, meetings hijacked, decisions over-turned or changes made incessantly resulting in confusion and lower morale? We need to bring them together in a cohesive way through situational leadership and team spirit. The story in this video highlights the power of Situaltional Leadership and team spirit.

Ken Blanchard - Servant Leadership
Ken Blanchard discusses servant leadership, a model where leaders partner with their people to set and attain goals. If you believe leadership is all about you, where you want to go and what you want to achieve, then your leadership, by default will be more self-focused and self-centered. On the other hand, if your leadership revolves around meeting the needs of the organisation and the people working for it, you will make different choices that will reveal a more “others-focused” approach. Emails: Before You Hit "Send"
http://www.wecomply.com :: Visit our website to find out more compliance guidelines or find us on Facebook and Twitter. TWITTER :: http://www.twitter.com/wecomply4u FACEBOOK:: http://www.facebook.com/wecomply4u Email is a vital part of business communication. According to a recent study, most employees spend at least one-third of their time at work on e-mail. Unfortunately, many employees don't know how to use e-mail well, nor do they understand the risks of using it inappropriately. Before you hit the "Send" button, ask yourself these questions: 1. If the message is addressed to more than one person, does it really need to be? "Reply all" should be used very sparingly. 2. Am I angry? If so, save the message as a draft and return to it at least an hour later. 3. Have I re-read what I wrote to be sure it's well-written and punctuated correctly? 4. Could I better accomplish the purpose of the message with a phone call or other method of communication? 5. Am I covering more than one subject? If so, consider sending a separate message for each subject. 6. Am I blind-copying anyone? If so, how will the primary recipient feel if he/she finds out? 7. Am I attaching a file that may be too large for the recipient to receive or in a format that will be difficult for the recipient to open? 8. Have I included a "subject" line that provides the recipient with a useful context for my message? We hope you'll follow these guidelines to make email a more useful and effective business tool.

Here are some examples: “as discussed”, “to follow up on our previous discussion”, “this is to inform you that...”, “Thanks for the update”, “Thanks for looking into that”, “Thanks for following up”, “I’ll get back to you”, “Keep me posted”, and many more. This is an essential lesson that will help you write like a professional in almost any workplace. Now it's time to continue improving with my video on how to write an INFORMAL email in English: https://youtu.be/llqPvcciKEM TRANSCRIPT Oh, there's free cake in the staff room? Thanks for letting me know. See you there. Yeah, free cake. All right. Hey, everyone. I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on writing a business or professional email in English. Now, this is useful for those of you who are just starting a corporate job, or if you are looking to work in an English environment where emails are constant. So, I use my email every day. I can tell you 100% that I have used all of these at one point or another in my emailing career, we'll say. So, I've sent thousands of emails, and I've used all of these. So, these are phrases that you can use in internal emails between yourself and your colleagues, or between yourself and someone who works with your company. So, maybe you know someone who is selling, you know, technology to your company, like printers or computers; maybe there's someone who supplies paper for your company and you have to interact with them, so you can use these phrases and expressions with them. All right? So, first we'll start with the greeting. We have: "Hello", "Hi", "Hey, Steve". Steve - these are all for Steve. So, you notice... If you're wondering: "Why didn't you put 'Dear'? Why didn't you put 'To whom it may concern'?" You could still use those. I guess it depends on your own personal comfort with formality. Having worked, like, you know, in Canada and exchanging emails with people in the United States, most people are comfortable with a "Hello" or a "Hi". Only use a "Hey" for someone you know. So, these are in level of formality. Next... All right, so one thing you might do in an email is to introduce a new topic or to inform someone of something; maybe not just one person, maybe a group of people, maybe a whole department. So, for example: "This is to inform you that..." Very general. So, maybe someone has received a promotion in your company. This is something you might see from your boss; or if you are a boss or a manager, you might send this to your team. "This is to inform you that", you know... Let's say Rosa; you have an employee named Rosa. "This is to inform you that Rosa has been promoted to the position of..." Okay? So you're giving information to your team. This one: "Just to let you know"... Now, this is very informal. So, only send this to people you know well, people within your company, maybe a friend in the company. So: "Just to let you know" is a much more informal, casual way that you can use in an email, instead of: "This is to inform you that..." Okay? So, for example: "Hey. Just to let you know, I'm not here on Friday. Please see me if you need anything from me before Friday." Okay? Also, you're introducing a topic, or informing your company, or someone of something, so: "Hey, Steve. Good news!", "Hey, Steve. Bad news.", "Hey, Steve. I've got good news.", "I've got bad news." Now, you notice, here, I used an exclamation after "Good news", you know, it's a good idea to make it seem exciting, so: "Good news! You know, I just got promoted." Okay? Or: "Good news! I'm getting a raise." Okay? Something like this. "Bad news. We're not getting pizza for free today.", "Bad news. I can't make lunch, sorry." Okay? "I can't make lunch." It doesn't mean you're creating lunch, you're making lunch; it means: "I can't go to lunch with you." Okay? So, you have: "This is to inform you that...", "Just to let you know...", "Good news!", "Bad news.", "I've got good news.", "I've got bad news." Okay? […]
